NSDC to train 50K freshers for jobs in textile industries

Accordingly, NSDC have tied up with Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) in this regard. The fresh graduates will be given employment in 23 different job roles in the textile sector in the State.

A spokesperson of NSDC here said that the textile industry in Tamil Nadu is one of the best performing in the country boasting of high productivity and producing very high quality textile.

With about 2000 medium and large textile spinning mills, it accounts for 47 per cent of India’s spinning capacity, 50 per cent of India’s overall textile exports and provides employment to about a million people, he said.

“However, over the past decade, the State’s textile industry has started to face shortage of skilled manpower, with the average annual attrition rate of 40 per cent, causing deterioration in its overall performance”, he said adding “hence, there is an urgent need to raise a workforce of skilled human capital to cater to this sector.”

Stating that it is to bridge such gaps between the demand and supply of skills across sectors that the NSDC was constituted, he said “One of the biggest and the most recent initiative of NSDC for skilling in the textile sector has been to sign a MoU with Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) - the textile entrepreneurs association representing a major chunk of textile manufacturing value chain from Tamil Nadu- for training and employment of more than 50,000 freshers in 23 different job roles in the textile by August this year.

“This would provide a much needed boost to the textile industry of the state by catering to about one third of its demand for skilled manpower for this year as result of the mentioned attrition rate”, the official said adding “The main beneficiaries of this initiative will be women from rural Tamil Nadu and migrant unemployed youth from other states.”

He said during the first phase of the training of 1,200 candidates will be completed and they will be placed at Member Mills of ITF.
