CBI slaps fresh charges on sex racket accused

Twenty-five-year-old Manivannan, who was part of a five-member gang led by 'Bar' Nagaraj that issued death threats to the brother of Pollachi sexual assault victim surrendered in a court in Coimbatore.

The CBI sleuths served an warrant to arrest Manivannan to officials at Coimbatore Central Prison on Monday. Though cases were booked against Manivannan and others by CB-CID, the CBI has been booking fresh cases by conducting an inquiry.

The CBI has also booked Tirunavukarasu, Sabarirajan, Sathish, Vasantha Kumar after taking over investigations from the CB-CID in connection with the scandal. After a young college girl blew the lid off, the Pollachi rural police arrested five persons; Tirunavukarasu, Sabarirajan, Sathish, Vasantha Kumar and Manivannan. They sexually exploited the girls, videographed the act and extorted money.
