According to police, Nagarajan, the DMK’s Panangadu area branch secretary, was returning home in a two-wheeler with his friend Nehru (40), when a gang intercepted them. They attacked the duo, seized their mobile phones and the two-wheeler.

While Nehru managed to escape, the gang forced Nagarajan into their car and sped away. On receiving information, the Suramangalam police rushed to the spot and held inquiries.

Police immediately intensified checks on arterial roads and checked CCTV cameras fixed at Kandampatty and Panangadu to trace the culprits. Police inquiries revealed that Nagarajan was running a chit funds firm and was also into money lending business.

After preliminary inquiries, police suspect that Nagarajan might have been abducted for financial reasons, as he charged a high interest from borrowers. A police search is on to nab the culprits and rescue the abducted person.
