Two women dead as van topples in Kovai
Two women died and about ten others suffered serious injuries after the van in which they were travelling toppled over near Sulthanpet in Pollachi here in the district on Sunday.

Police said the women were all working in a textile firm at Karadivavi near Palladam in Tirupur district and hailed from different rural localities such as Pollachi, Negamam and Palladam.
“The textile firm had arranged for pick-up and drop facility for its workers. After work, the women had boarded a van driven by Arumugam from V. Mettur to reach home on Saturday night,” the police added.
When the van reached Sulthanpet, a two-wheeler suddenly came the way of the four-wheeler, causing the mishap. To avoid hitting the two-wheeler, the driver braked suddenly, but lost control and the van soon toppled over along the roadside.
In the impact, Manimegalai alias Mala (28) died on the spot, while Kalaivani (26) was rushed to Palladam GH and later to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), where she succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning.
Those injured in the accident include Selvi (46), Sudha (26), Thangamani (20), Eswari (45), Anitha (25), Chitra (19), Mahalakshmi (25), Jayachitra (28) and Satyapriya (38). All the injured are undergoing treatment at Palladam GH.
The Sulthanpet police have registered a case and a team led by Inspector Thangaraj are on the lookout for the van driver who is on the run.
