Two students drown in lake in Salem

According to the police, a gang of five-Shivsankar, Gokul, Ajith, Sasi Kumar, and Manikandan- all aged 21 and pursuing BSc Mathematics at a college in Rasipuram had visited the house of their classmate Abishek (21) from Gangavalli for a function.

While Abishek stayed back in the house, his five visiting friends had gone in two two-wheelers to a lake at Valasakkalpatty. While they were bathing there, Shivsankar and Gokul got stuck in the sludge and began to drown. “Despite a struggle, they couldn’t come out and efforts by their three friends to save them too turned in vain,” the police said. Upon receiving information, the Gangavalli fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot, but the duo had drowned by then.

After a search, the rescue personnel fished out their bodies, which were then sent for post mortem at Attur Government Hospital.

The Gangavalli police have registered a case and inquiries are on with Ajith, Sasi Kumar and Manikandan on the circumstances that led to the duo drowning. The police added that neither Shivsankar nor Gokul knew swimming.
