Alleging that the Election Commission was acting in favour of the AIADMK, AMMK propaganda secretary Thanga Tamilselvan on Saturday referred to the recent shifting of ballot units to Theni from Coimbatore and Election Commission’s decision to order a re-poll in a few booths in Theni Lok Sabha constituency.

Addressing reporters, Thanga Tamilselvan said, “Nobody wanted repolling in Theni constituency. But the EC’s order raised doubts among many”. He said the AMMK had already raised a few issues in nomination papers filed by AIADMK Theni LS candidate Ravindranath Kumar. “We had even submitted a petition to the election authorities, but no action was taken,” he said.

Claiming that the AIADMK was trying to create disturbances in counting centres, Thanga Tamilselvan said the EC should be on high-alert and take adequate measures to prevent it.

Continuing his attack on the ruling party, he said the AMMK would vote against the government in the event of a floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to ascertain if it enjoyed majority.

“Our stand is that this regime should go. We will dislodge this government, which has become the embodiment of corruption, to form one led by our leader TTV Dhinakaran,” he said, adding that the people of TN also wish the same.

“People will vote for us only if we dislodge this government,” he said, alleging that “betrayers (Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam) came together and are running a corrupt government”.

Expressing confidence that his party would certainly win all the 22 Assembly constituencies in TN, he said the AIADMK government would not have a majority after the results are announced on May 23.

Thanga Tamilselvan said the election results would reveal the public support for the AMMK. “AIADMK ministers would disappear after facing a defeat. It is no wonder such ministers would even join the BJP after suffering a poll debacle,” he said.

Responding to a query, he said the AMMK would never align with the DMK and no such situation would arise. “Only to oppose both the AIADMK and DMK we nominated our candidates in all the Lok Sabha constituencies and we are fighting bypolls to 22 Assembly constituencies separately,” the AMMK leader said.

“It was O Panneerselvam, who is currently the Deputy Chief Minister, who made all efforts to dissolve the J Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK government earlier with the support of the DMK.”
