Stalin, Vaiko condemn Governor inaction
DMK president MK Stalin has urged Governor Banwarilal Purohit to immediately order the release of the seven Rajiv assassination case convicts, accepting the resolution passed by the state cabinet in this regard.

Expressing anguish over the Governor delaying action on the Assembly resolution, Stalin said the Supreme Court orders dismissing the petitions challenging their release on Thursday has come a ray of hope to the seven persons who have been languishing in prison for long. “There is no hurdle in the Governor taking a decision under Article 161 of the Constitution. No more excuse could be given either. Hence, the Governor should immediately order their release in acceptance of the resolution adopted by the state cabinet,” Stalin said, pointing out to the Governor that further delay would lead to aspersions being cast over the same.
Meanwhile, MDMK leader Vaiko condemned Governor Banwarilal Purohit for delaying their release.
Vaiko, in a statement, said, “The Tamil Nadu Cabinet, on September 9, passed a resolution to release all seven Rajiv convicts and sent it to Governor, who is unwilling to act on the recommendation. The silence of Governor is unconstitutional.”
Many politicians across the state have also welcomed the action of Supreme Court. They also demanded their immediate release as they were lingering in prison for the past 28 years.
Vaiko said that there were reports that after the state government sent the recommendation to release Rajiv convicts, the Governor had asked suggestion from Union Home Ministry, which is illegal. “If Governor had really sought advice from Home Ministry for the release of Rajiv convicts it is condemnable,” said Vaiko. He also raised the doubt whether the advice to Home Ministry was sought through the state government.
