EVKS Elangovan objects to repolling in Theni

A day after the fresh arrival of ballot units to Theni from Coimbatore on Tuesday night, EVKS Elangovan, who contested representing the Congress from Theni Lok Sabha constituency last month, raked up the issue.

Elangovan said there’s no necessity for repolling in any of the booths in this constituency, which did not witness any serious violation during the polling on April 18, and appealed to the electoral authorities to take back the ballot units from Theni to its respective place.

While counting of votes polled during the Lok Sabha elections is scheduled on May 23, the recent arrival of ballot units from Coimbatore created chaos among cadres of various political parties in Theni. Talking to reporters at Theni, Elangovan alleged that Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was behind the unnecessary arrival of ballot units to Theni. Some days ago, Panneerselvam travelled up to Varanasi, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi with intent to shift fifty ballot units to Theni from Coimbatore. Further, he said whatever Panneerselvam could do, but his son would never win from Theni LS constituency.

Maharajan, DMK candidate, who contested from Andipatti Assembly constituency, in a petition to Theni Collector and District Election Officer Pallavi M Baldev said polling was over without any issue and with some more days left in this month for counting of votes, the EC’s move to conduct re-polling in few booths was not necessary.
