In a statement, Veeramani said, “The incident of force-feeding faeces and urine to Dalit is an inhumane act. Government should put an end to such atrocities and should cull the caste clashes in the state.” The incident which happened in Thiruvanduthurai village, near Mannargudi, in Tiruvarur district, had sent shock waves across the state and Dalit parties and organisations condemned it. Strict action was demanded against the accused.
Veeramani said that the persons of intermediate communities could not accept the rise of Dalits who are now educated and started to earn well. Persons who could not tolerate the rise of Dalits should be punished instantly and these are the persons who are against self-respect.
He also said that the Ponnamaravathi Dalit incident is still fresh in the minds of people and before the wounds of Ponnamaravathi could be healed such a heinous crime has happened in Tiruvarur. Strict action should be taken on the accused, irrespective of their background, he demanded.
He further said that such incidents should not happen again and questioned how could such caste related violent incidents occur in Periyar’s land. “To stop such incidents from happening in future the protests against Dalit atrocities should be intensified,” said Veeramani.
