Seven persons were killed on the spot when the car they were travelling rammed into stationary lorry on the outskirts of Ambur on Monday afternoon.
Vellore
The victims were identified as Hemant Narayan Deshmukh(42), wife Sarika (36), Milan Narayan Deshmukh(40) and his wife Kuran (35) and their sons Adhinath (13) and Ajingol (10), all from Maharashtra. The car driver was identified as Manjunath Reddy (40) of Bangalore.
All the seven persons were travelling to Bengaluru from Vellore when the mishap happened. The accident reportedly occurred when the front tyre of the car burst resulting in the driver losing control of the car. The car then rammed into a stationary multi axle lorry.
The Ambur taluk police who rushed to the spot used iron bars to pry open the mangled metal to lift the dead from the wreckage.
The police registered a case and immediately sent the bodies to the Ambur Government Hospital for post-mortem. Due to the lack of space in the mortuary, the bodies were later shifted to the Vellore Government Medical College at Adukamaparai on the Tiruvannamalai highway.
