SC to hear DMK plea on 3 MLAs’ disqualification
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi agreed to hear the plea on May 6.
Chennai
The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a plea by DMK against the notice of Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker disqualifying the three AIADMK MLAs for supporting AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi agreed to hear the plea on May 6. This decision came after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing on the behalf of DMK, pleaded for an early hearing in the matter.
Sibal also told the apex court that Speaker P Dhanapal himself had faced no-confidence motion while issuing a notice to the three AIADMK MLAs Rathinasabapathy, MLA of Aranthangi constituency, VT Kalaiselvan from Virudhachalam constituency and VT Prabhu from Kallakuruchi constituency.
Meanwhile, Rathinasabhapathy and Kalaiselvam said on Friday that they have mooted a petition in the SC explaining that they were in no way connected with the AMMK. Speaking to reporters, Rathinasabhapathy said they would approach the apex court seeking legal intervention to stop Dhanapal from acting against three of them.
