88 booths sensitive in Tiruparankundram
With just a fortnight left for the bypoll to Tiruparankundram Assembly constituency in Madurai, the District Administration is gearing up to ensure smooth conduct of polls.

Among the 297 polling booths, which had been set up at a total of 99 locations, 88 polling booths have been identified as ‘vulnerable’ under the limits of Tiruparankundram constituency. These polling booths come under 26 zones across the constituency, Madurai Collector and District Election Officer S Nagarajan said on Friday.
As many as 1,200 polling personnel would be involved in manning the booths. These personnel were provided with required training in first phase on April 28 and would also undergo training in two more phases before polling, he said while addressing reporters at the Collectorate. Â
Since 37 candidates would be contesting the upcoming bypoll from Tiruparankundram constituency, three ballot units would be required in all booths. Currently, a total of 1,420 ballot units have been kept ready and candidate name insertion into such units would be conducted on Saturday after informing the candidates. Further, he said a total of 297 micro observers would be deployed to monitoring proceedings in polling booths.
The Election Commission has designated IAS officer, Omprakash Roy as Poll Observer (General) – (6383177484) and Sathish Kumar as Poll Observer (Expenditure) – (6383194797) for this constituency, he said.
Madurai City Commissioner of Police S Davidson Devasirvatham, said adequate security arrangements would be made with the deployment of around 2,000 police personnel.
