TNCC spokesperson rapped for silence on BJP remarks
While party spokespersons routinely hit back at the criticism of their leaders by the Opposition, Tamil Nadu Congress spokesperson A Gopanna faced pressure of a peculiar kind for one such recent incident.
Chennai
A district president of the State Congress has severely criticised Gopanna, who is the president of the TNCC media wing, for not giving a fitting reply to a BJP spokesperson during a talk show.
In a leaked telephonic conversation between the district president from southern TN and Gopanna, which is now doing rounds on social media, the former was heard questioning Gopanna for not throwing a punch at the BJP spokesperson who made a controversial and unquotable allegation against Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
“The BJP functionary called our leader... You should have hit him right in the studio. Why did you spare him? If you cannot do it why do you participate in such shows,” argued the district president.
Even as Gopanna attempted to pacify him, the agitated district president was heard suggesting that he should have thrown the chair on the BJP spokesperson for his derogatory remark. “How can we do that? Indeed, he made an unparliamentary reference.
I reprimanded him for that. What else can we do there?” the media wing head explained. The unrelenting functionary, eventually, advises his senior to depute him for TV talk shows in which the BJP man takes part. “You give me his address. I will teach him a lesson,” he quipped.
