The Officers Training Academy here was buzzing with activity on Tuesday morning, as special guests had come down all the way from Central Asia, to get acquainted with the various aspects of military training for women officers in India. Five women officers from the Kyrgyzstan Defence Forces are part of a special exercise to strengthen military cooperation between India and Kyrgyzstan.

The three-week programme comprises various indoor and outdoor activities. They include obstacle training, weapon training, military competence and other demonstrations. While women cadets are trained at Officers Training Academy and then commissioned as officers, the practice is exactly the reverse in Kyrgyzstan, where women military forces are trained after being appointed as officers. “It’s very high-level training for women military forces here in India. We will convey this to our senior officials so that several facets of military training for Indian women officers can be adapted in our country,” said one of the Kyrgyzstan women officers.

Captain Radhika Jaggi, instructor for the training programme, said, “We have a dedicated academy for training women, but such a provision is not available in Kyrgyzstan. Thus, as part of an exchange programme, five women officers were shown the latest training practices and curriculum, which also focus on development of character, leadership traits and tactical sessions.”
