Corpn schools record highest pass percentage in five years

Seventy schools saw 5,730 students appear for the exams, out of which 2,734 were boys and 2,996 were girls. A total of 5,297 students — 2,431 boys and 2,866 girls — successfully cleared the examination. Girls out-performed the boys with an overall pass percentage of 95.66 per cent to 88.92 per cent.

At least 20 students have scored above 450 out of 500, while 213 students have scored above 400 marks, a corporation release stated.

A total of 21 Corporation schools have registered 100 per cent pass percentage in Class 10. This includes schools in localities such as Lloyds Road, Alwarpet, Cooks Road, Nungambakkam, Rangarajapuram, KP Street, Vanniya Teynampet, SN Street, Sharma Nagar, Erukkanchery, Thiruvengadasamy Street, Koyyathope, Walltax Road, Jafferkhanpet, Kannammapet, Nammalvar Pet, Old Washermanpet, Anjaneya Nagar, VP Koil Street and Chintadripet.

The schools that secured 100 per cent pass were awarded a cheque of Rs 1 lakh each to improve infrastructure by the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner K Prakash. P Kumaravel Pandian, Deputy Commissioner (Education), Greater Chennai Corporation, along with E Govindasamy, Educational Officer, Education Department, Greater Chennai Corporation, were also present at the event.

Meanwhile, B Ishwarya from Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mogappair East, scored 491 marks out of 500. The breakup of her score is as follows: 98 in Language, 98 in English, 98 in Mathematics, 97 in Science and 100 in Social Science.
