Don’t withhold salary of aided school teachers over TET, JACTTO-GEO demands government
The Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisations and Government Employees’ Organisations (JACTTO-GEO), on Sunday, demanded the state government not to withhold the salary for teachers of government aided schools, who have not cleared the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET).
Chennai
PK Elamaran, state president, JACTTO-GEO, in a statement said, “When the teachers joined their jobs in 2011, they were given 10 attempts in five years to clear TET, but in the five-year period government conducted TET only thrice and so it is not proper on the government’s side to stop the salary for the teachers.” Recently, the government had decided to withhold the April month salary for around 1,500 teachers of government aided schools who had not cleared the TET. The decision sent shock waves across the state as it was not expected from the state government.
“The decision to stop the salary had caused mental trauma among teachers and government should immediately revoke the decision to withdraw their salaries. Teaching is not just another job but it is a service to the society,” said Elamaran.
He further demanded the government to drop the process of conducting TET for teachers who are already in the profession.
