According to the police, the victim identified as Sathish Kumar of Porur was employed in Singapore. He came back to the city nearly a year ago and started working in a private company in Sriperumbudur. “While working in Singapore, Sathish had borrowed Rs 34,000 from his colleague Nandakumar and failed to return the sum. He started ignoring his calls after he reached Chennai,” said the police.
After losing his patience, Nandakumar informed his brother Ajith Kumar in Vellore about the incident. Following this, his brother hatched a plan to trap Sathish and get the money back. Ajith Kumar made his wife message Sathish on social media saying that she likes him. Nearly after a month, Ajith’s plan worked and Sathish expressed interest to meet her.
Sathish reached Porur on Thursday night along with his friend Prakash as asked by his ‘girlfriend’. “When they were near the Porur bus stop, two men, who came on a motorbike, attacked the duo and kidnapped Sathish at knifepoint and sped away,” said police.
Immediately, Prakash informed the police about the incident and the SRMC police started tracking Sathish’s mobile number. It was located to Vellore and with the help of the local police, the city police team nabbed the suspects – P Rahul (20) and P Ajith Kumar (23) of Vellore – on Friday evening. They have been booked under Section 365 (abduction) of the IPC and remanded in custody.
