2 held for abusing girls on promise of marriage
Two men were arrested on charges of sexually assaulting girls in the guise of marriage in separate incidents in the city.

B Sakthivel (19) of Kodungaiyur, an autorickshaw driver, was arrested for eloping with a 16-year-old girl on the promise of marrying her and then sexually assaulting her. Based on a complaint by the girl’s mother, the MKB Nagar all-women police registered a case and launched a hunt for him. He was secured on Friday and the girl was rescued from him. Sakthivel was remanded in judicial custody.
Similarly, the Tambaram all-women police arrested a 27-year-old man for assaulting a 15-year-old girl on the promise of marrying her. The girl’s parents from Peerkankarani lodged a complaint on March 13 that their daughter had gone missing. Investigation revealed that one S Ilayathilagam of Thoothukudi, who worked in a grocery shop, developed a relationship with her. As he had also been missing, the police launched a hunt for the duo and secured them. Ilayathilagam has been remanded in judicial custody.
Vegetable vendor misbehaves with five-year-old boy, held
Meanwhile, the Mylapore police arrested a 38-year-old man for misbehaving with a five-year-old boy under the influence of alcohol. The accused, S Muniyan of Lala Thottam, is a vegetable vendor. He is separated from his wife over differences and living with his two daughters.
On Wednesday, Muniyan allegedly took the boy to a secluded place and slapped him. Later, the accused pinched his chest and scratched his private part with a pen. After the boy informed his parents, a complaint was lodged on Thursday. A case was registered and Muniyan was secured from a Tasmac shop on Friday.
