8 yrs on, man from Bihar rejoins family
A mentally challenged man from north India was reunited with his family after eight years, thanks to the efforts of an NGO, sources said.
Vellore
Officials said that Rajkumar (49), a tailor by profession and a resident of Parihar village in Sitamarhi district in Bihar, was found roaming with ragged clothes and an unkempt appearance at Senguttai near Katpadi here six months ago.
As the man knew no other language other than Hindi, locals brought him to the notice of the Vellore district administration officials, who then handed him over to the Tirupattur-based NGO, Udavum Ullangal.
Based on the care provided at the organisation, Rajkumar came out of his mental state a few days ago and revealed his name and his whereabouts. This resulted in Udavum Ullangal chief Ramesh using his good offices to contact the Parihar police station, who in turn were able to locate Rajkumar’s relatives.
Rajkumar’s wife Vimala Devi, son Ravi Kumar Singh, brother Virendra Kumar and brother-in-law Ashok Kumar all landed at the NGO here on Wednesday where they had a tearful reunion. Raj Kumar united with his family in the presence of Tirupattur sub-collector Priyanka Pankajam, Ramesh added.
