Notice issued to pvt firm over CCTV snag in strong room at Coimbatore
A day after the CCTV cameras fixed in a college, where EVMs from Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency were kept, stopped functioning, the Coimbatore Collector K Rajamani has issued a notice to the private agency entrusted with its maintenance.
Of the 144 cameras fixed at GCT College of Technology, nearly 130 cameras fixed in front of counting rooms, strong rooms and in the premises went off suddenly on Tuesday morning.
The EVMs collected from six assembly segments – Coimbatore North, Coimbatore South, Singanallur, Kavundampalayam, Sulur and Palladam – were kept in sealed strong rooms on the college premises.
In the notice, the Collector questioned as to why there was a delay in resolving the problem. The CCTV cameras, which stopped functioning in the morning, resumed function only in the evening.
The agents of political parties said that the private firm entrusted with the maintenance of CCTV has deployed one person to attend to such emergencies. “However, he couldn’t find the nature of the fault. Then, local technicians were roped in and they found transmission issues,” said an agent.
Following this incident, security has been further strengthened and high mast lamps have been fixed to ensure a better vigil on the premises, said sources.
