According to prosecution, the incident took place on September 23, 2017 when the victim identified as S Kishore (11), son of K Sivakumar, a sales manager in a pharmaceutical company, residing at Pappa Nagar Extension in Nanjikkottai was playing at a temple ground.
T Aravind alias Viswanath (22), from the same locality, who was smoking nearby, allegedly pushed Kishore away and asked him to play elsewhere. Agitated over this, Kishore picked up an altercation with Aravind, who then strangulated the boy. Kishore developed fits and died soon. Subsequently, Aravind took the body to a nearby empty housing plot and buried it there.
Aravind surrendered before the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) and reportedly confessed about the crime. The Tamil University police registered a case of murder and arrested him.
After hearing both the sides, the First Additional District and Sessions Judge K Poornajayaananth on Monday awarded life sentence to Aravind, besides imposing a fine of Rs 20,000 on him.
