PMK cadre threaten Inspector over arrest of local functionary
Police have started an investigation after a video clip showing a few Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) cadre allegedly threatening Dharapuram Inspector Raj Kannan went viral on social media.

Police sources said that the video was shot near a checkpost on the Dharapuram-Palani Road on Sunday evening. The Inspector was threatened in connection with the arrest of Jayachandran (30), PMK’s Dharapuram area urban secretary, a few days ago.
“They threatened the Inspector by saying that he will not be allowed to reside in the city. They also told him that the district SP would talk to him regarding Jayachandran’s arrest,” sources added.
The arrest took place after a police patrol team came across a group of five men standing near a bakery on Alangiyam Road around midnight. Upon suspicion that they were involved in smuggling sand from Amaravati river in lorries, the cops approached the gang and questioned them. A verbal altercation broke out, which soon escalated into a physical fight. The group then assaulted constable Chandrasekar and allegedly attempted to kill him.
After several inquires, the police arrested two persons, including Jayachandran and his friend Ram Kumar (26), for the assault. A search is on to nab others involved in the incident.
