Code still in vogue in Tamil Nadu, says Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo
Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said that the model code of conduct was still in vogue and it has not been relaxed in Tamil Nadu.

Talking to reporters here on Monday, he said that however, the cash seizures by flying squads and static surveillance teams would be now restricted within the districts where the by polls were due on May 19.
In the wake of alleged security breach at the strong room making headlines in Madurai, the CEO said that an additional electoral officer has been deputed to investigate the issue and necessary action would be taken after the official’s report. “All district collectors and SPs have been instructed to inspect the strong rooms and ensure that the norms prescribed by the Election Commission of India are implemented,” he said.
Sahoo added that all poll-related violence and restriction of voters in Ariyalur district are under examination. “A detailed report from Madurai collector is awaited on the lapse in securing arrangement near the strong room and a report from Ariyalur regarding restriction of voters on the day of polling has also been sought. The reports will be sent to the EC for necessary action.
To a query regarding claims that the police were not allowing the political party agents to visit the strong rooms, the CEO said that the complaint raised by a political party in Theni would also be investigated.
