The arrested person was identified as Vijayakumar (21), a construction worker.

Even as polling was underway at the Chidambaram Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday, a clash broke out between Dalits and caste Hindus at Ponparappi in Ariyalur district, in which 20 houses belonging to Dalits were damaged.

Meanwhile, three youngsters from Pudur in Ashok Nagar took to TikTok to vent their anger against the riot. In the one-minute video, the youngsters claimed the rioters unleashed attacks on a particular community in Ponparappi and made abusive comments on Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). Mocking the attackers for assaulting children and elderly, they challenged them to come to Chennai and fight them.

As the video was inciting in nature, a case was registered. Ashok Nagar police tracked down Vijayakumar, one of the three accused, and charged him under various sections of the IPC for making obscene remarks, criminal intimidation and making statements conducing to public mischief.

Vijayakumar was remanded in custody on Sunday and a hunt has been launched for the other two who are seen in the video.
