Widespread protests demanding action have been rocking Pudukkottai since Friday after the objectionable content was spread through social media.
On Sunday, the aggrieved members of the group took out a rally from near Tiruttalinathar temple to the Tirupattur taluk office, where they submitted petition to the tahsildar Thangamani, seeking appropriate action against the culprits for derogatory comments against the women from the group.
Following this, the protesters went to the Tirupattur police station where they staged a demonstration. The members raised slogans demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. At a few locations in Kottampatti near Melur, the agitators also staged a road blockade demanding action against the accused, sources said.
Vehicular traffic was affected for some time in parts of Tirupattur, Velayuthapattinam in Karaikudi town, Mathur and Kalayarkovil due to the road blockades.
However, adequate deployment of police personnel led by Superintendent of Police T Jeyachandran ensured that law and order was maintained, sources said. Riot control forces are monitoring the situation to ensure that no untoward incidents happened.
