Addressing reporters at Chennai airport, Tamilisai said, “No official has the right to enter a strong room that has been sealed in the presence of election officials, candidates and political party agents. If the concerned official had to enter the room to take any document the official should have sought the permission of political parties, their candidates and the booth agents.”

Opposition parties claimed that a woman Tahsildar had entered a strong room where postal votes are preserved and the official took photocopies of documents present inside the strong room.

The incident created various controversies as the Election Commission was blamed for supporting theruling party.

Following complaint from the Opposition parties, the EC has placed the concerned woman Tahsildar under suspension.

Tamilisai said that such incidents will destroy the reputation of the EC and democracy among public.

There is no room for error in election but the Opposition parties are claiming that as if the ruling party had sent an official to purposefully alter the records in the strong room which is not true, she added.
