    3 killed in bike-truck collision in Sivaganga

    Three youths were killed as their two-wheeler collided with a truck near Nallakulam bus stop on the Sivaganga road on Saturday.

    The deceased were identified as P Ilakiya Naveen (19) of Indira Nagar, M Eswaramurthy (19) of Pakiyanagar, and M Maheshkumar (15) of Tirupuvanam. They all worked at a petrol bunk.


    The three were returning from Tirupuvanam after mortgaging their jewellery, said sources. They all succumbed to their injuries on spot, they added. On information about the mishap, police personnel attached to the Poovanthi station rushed to the spot and held enquiries.


    Based on a complaint lodged by M Gurupandian (30) of Police Line Street, Poovanthi police have filed a case under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of the IPC. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Sivaganga government hospital for post-mortem, sources said.


    40 hurt as 4 buses crash

    Meanwhile, a total of 40 passengers were injured as four buses rammed one behind the other on the Ulundurpet bypass road on Saturday, police said.


    Two of the Chennai-bound buses were from Alangulam and Tirunelveli. The other two were from Kodaikanal and Uthankudi, they said.


    According to the cops, the bus from Alangulam rammed the one from Tirunelveli while overtaking. The other two buses closely following them also rear-ended with them, they said.


    The 40 passengers travelling on the buses from Uthankudi and Kodaikanal were injured and the two buses suffered heavy damages, police added. The passengers were rescued by the police and were sent to a hospital.
