High score helps hearing impaired girl overcome fears

Bhargavi’s mother, V Rajeswari, is a housemaid near their rented house in Virugabmbakkam and her father, T Venkatesan, works in a paint shop. She studied in a special school in Thousand Lights.

“Bhargavi would often compare her condition with her brother and other children only to cry alone. She had developed a complex. We are happy that she has overcome the complex to score good marks. She got the second rank in her school,” Rajeswari said.

Rajeswari added that her daughter can speak, however, with a little stuttering.

Her scores are 67 in Tamil, 62 in Economics, 69 in Commerce, 79 in Accountancy and 71 in Business Maths. While other students wrote the exam for 600 marks, special children write for 500 marks.

According to her mother, Bhargavi scored more than 350 out of 400 in Class 10. “I wish to join B Com after completing one-year English training. I did not attend any tuition and all the credits go to my teachers,” much elated Bhargavi said.

More than 2,600 differently abled candidates appeared for the Class 12 board exam and of which, as many as 2,404 students passed. Accordingly, 381 blind students, 520 deaf and dumb candidates, 876 physically challenged kids and 617 students with other disabilities passed the exams. The overall pass percentage of disabled candidates was about 90% this time. Last year’s figure was a little over 80 per cent.
