While booth slips are usually delivered at an individual’s doorstep either by revenue staff or political party members, this election however saw the public-especially in the city and its suburbs-searching for the poll agents at the last minute to get their booth slips. However, several people did not get the slip, which is essential for election staff to find the voter’s detail in the electoral list, even after approaching the officials. The ECI’s “Voter Helpline” app, which assists in finding voter details, thus became useful not just for the voting public, but also for the staff deployed in the polling booths as well as political agents.

“I did not get my booth slip even after approaching the political poll agents. However, when I sought help from a presiding officer inside the booth, he gave me the details after entering my EPIC number in the app”, K Shanthi, a resident of Anakaputhur, told DT Next. Even police personnel, who were posted at the polling stations, also chipped in to help the voters to find their voting booths through the application.
