    Polling peaceful in state, says Shukla

    DGP (Elections) Ashutosh Shukla, on Thursday said that the Lok Sabha elections for 38 constituencies and bypolls for 18 Assembly constituencies went off peacefully in the state. The smooth conduct of elections in a free and fair manner is the hallmark of the police bundobust, a release from Shukla said.

    A few minor incidents were reported in places like Gudiyattam, Kallakurichi, Chengam town, Ariyalur and Kilvisharam, the press release added. Police parties rushed to those places and the situation were brought under control. 

    At Kilvisharam, in Vellore, a CAPF official opened one round of fire in air to disperse the crowd, when they entered the polling station.

    Police and central armed police force members were deployed in 67,720 polling stations to manage the electoral process and also maintain Law & Order. 

    During the day, police parties were on constant vigil and on continuous move and ensured peaceful elections. The whole process was also closely monitored on continuous basis from the police headquarters, the release added.

    The district and the city police were on constant vigil and on movement through the night to ensure the polled EVMs are deposited in the counting centres, the release added.
