Minister blames observer for clash on final day of campaign
Accusing an election observer for creating confusion, Transport Minister M R Vijayabaskar on Wednesday said that the official, who gave permission to both the parties for holding rallies at the same time should have discussed the route and timing with the AIADMK, which would have prevented the clash between the party cadre during the final leg of campaign on Tuesday.

Speaking about to the clash between the ruling AIADMK and the DMK cadre in Karur, Vijayabaskar told reporters that the observer gave permission to AIADMK on April 12 after which the party commenced its event at 2 pm on the last day of campaign, and that the Assistant Returning Officer had attested the copy.
“When the Opposition parties sought permission seeking the same time slot, officials altered our time without informing us. They should have discussed the issue with both the parties,” the Minister said.
Stating that all political parties were interested in completing the campaign in the town, Vijayabaskar said that it was the duty of the officials to allot different timings to different parties. He refuted the claim that he had visited the Collector and insisted him not to permit the DMK to hold its campaign at the particular spot.
“I met the Collector, who is also the Returning Officer, to avoid giving the same time slot to both the parties. But the Opposition parties have misinterpreted,” he said adding that the AIADMK would never indulge in such acts.
“We are not for the cancellation of the polls as alleged by the Congress candidate as we are sure of victory,” the Minister said. Earlier, around 200 workers from various political parties joined the AIADMK in presence of the Minister.
