EC told to be summer ready during polling
With the election campaign coming to an end, all the focus had now shifted to polling scheduled on Thursday. Apart from few model polling stations, majority of the polling stations lack basic amenities and the social activists were repeatedly complaining to the Election Commission (EC) to improve the facilities in the polling booths.

Citing the scorching summer, social activists had demanded the EC to provide basic amenities in all polling booths. Kalaichelvi, Tamil Nadu Sudheshi Women Protecting Association, told DT Next, “The major problem faced by the women voters is the lack of proper toilet facilities in the polling booths. The EC should set up mobile toilets in polling booths.”
“It will be intensely hot on the day of polling and there will be long queues in the booths. There is every chance that elders, who are waiting in long queues under scorching sun will collapse and so the EC should put up shamianas in all the polling stations for the benefit of the people,” she added. She also demanded the EC to place sufficient water in the polling stations and to make sure that there are ramps in all the polling stations for the benefit of differently-abled persons.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Milk Agents Welfare Association demanded the EC to supply buttermilk in the polling stations to counter the intense heat.
Ponnusamy, president of the Milk Agents Association, said, “Water alone will not be sufficient for the voters. EC should keep Aavin buttermilk in the polling stations for the use of the voters.” However, the EC officials have ensured that all the basic amenities such as drinking water, toilets, ramps, lightings, shelter and even fans will be provided in the polling booths.
