Flying squad seizes Rs 65L in Thoothukudi

Based on a tip-off, the squad reached the farm, which is located at Karupur near Ettayapuram. Anthonysamy (50) of Venkatachalapuram, who took the farm land on lease, has been enquired by a team of Income Tax Department officials.

Information about the seizure was conveyed to Thoothukudi collector and District Election Officer Sandeep Nanduri. When contacted, he said any seizure of cash beyond Rs 10 lakh should be handed over to the Income Tax Department for further enquiry.

“It was the highest amount seized so far since the model code of conduct came into place. On Saturday, Rs 31 lakh in unaccounted cash was seized from a person in Vilathikulam. Nearly around Rs 2.5 crore in unaccounted cash has been seized in the district till now,” Sandeep Nanduri said.
