Panneerselvam campaigned in Kancheepuram Lok Sabha constituency for AIADMK candidate Maragatham Kumaravel, in the morning and in the evening he campaigned at Poonamallee for AIADMK Tiruvallur candidate Dr Venugopal and Poonamalle Assembly bypoll candidate Vaidyanathan.

In the rally at Kancheepuram, Panneerselvam said, “When AIADMK came to power in 2011, late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, increased the marriage assistance for women to Rs 25,000 per beneficiary and if the woman is a graduate, the marriage assistance was Rs 50,000 per beneficiary, even before there was demand from women of economically weaker families.”

The increase in marriage assistance shows Jayalalithaa’s understanding of problems faced by the people and added that the present AIADMK government headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, is also better in understanding the problems faced by the people and providing immediate solutions even before people ask for it.

Hitting out at the DMK, Panneerselvam said that the party president MK Stalin had been claiming in all his public meetings that the AIADMK government will be overthrown after the end of Lok Sabha elections which is not possible.

“AIADMK is a banyan tree with deep rooted branches. No one can dismantle the organisation. Not Stalin, even his father tried but could not do anything against the party,” the Deputy Chief Minister noted.

He also said that in the past, DMK was part of the Union government, but no good scheme was implemented. “They tried to implement Sethusamuthiram Shipping Canal Project but Jayalalithaa, in the beginning, said that the project will be a failure. Without listening to others, DMK pushed in Rs 40,000 crore for the project but we do not know to whose pockets were the funds diverted to,” quipped Panneerselvam.
