Campaigning for Karur AIADMK candidate M Thambidurai, the Chief Minister termed the Congress-led opposition alliance as opportunistic.
“Congress president Rahul Gandhi promised to construct the dam at Mekedatu while campaigning in Karnataka a few days ago. What will be Stalin’s response on this statement,” the CM said. “Once Rahul Gandhi become the Prime Minister, the Cauvery delta would certainly become a desert,” he emphasised.
“We need a prime minister who is a pro- development, as it which would only ensure projects for Tamil Nadu. But the Congress has one stand in Tamil Nadu and the other in Kerala and it would land the alliance into trouble while selecting a candidate”, Palaniswami said.
Stating that the DMK had not worked to ensure Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu farmers, the CM said that the AIADMK MPs had fought for the issue in the Parliament and even made the house come to a standstill for as many as 23 days.
Referring to DMK leader V Senthil Balaji, the Chief Minister said he was identified by the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. “He is now contesting as a DMK candidate in Aravakurichi. The DMK was once called an evil force by the late leader MGR,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister claimed that the law and order situation in the state was good. Stalin’s criticism is aimed at maligning the government’s image, he said, adding that severe action has been initiated against the accused in Pollachi sexual abuse case.
He pointed out that sexual harassment cases have been registered against DMK functionaries Sun Rajendran and Kabilan from Sulur.
