Three migrant workers fell into a well when they were chased by locals who mistook them for thieves, at Karasamangalam near Katpadi on Wednesday night. The workers were said to be drunk at the time of the incident.

They were identified as Dishan (19), Sumit (23) and Dharmendran (23), from north Indian states, working in a private company at Karasamangalam. On Wednesday, the trio had consumed liquor. When they reached Karasamangalam, their inebriated gait made locals suspicious. Thinking that they were thieves, the public started chasing them.
When they saw a mob running towards them, the youth panicked and took to their heels. As they were trying to escape, they reportedly fell into an unused farm well and suffered injuries. Their screams alerted local residents, who in turn informed Katpadi police.
The police with help of TNFRS personnel rescued them. They were then rushed to the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the sequence of events, but no case has been registered so far.
