    Woman, son murdered in Tiruttani: 21 sovereigns of gold missing from house

    In a double-murder at Tiruttani, a 40-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son were found murdered and 21 sovereign of gold jewels were missing from their home near the Tiruttani-Arakkonam Highway on Sunday night.

    Police said that Vana Perumal (45), lived with his wife Veeralakshmi (40) and their son Pothiraj (10), at Balaji Street in PT Pudur, Tiruttani. While Perumal worked as a security guard at a private tyre company in Ichiputthur, Veeralakshmi stayed at home and took care of Pothiraj, who was studying Class 5 in a private school nearby. The couple also has an elder daughter, who is married and lives in Chennai.


    On Sunday, Vana Perumal had left his home at 8 pm for night shift work. However, when Perumal returned home on Monday morning, he was shocked to find out that the front door of their house was open. Though he tried calling his wife, he failed to get any response.


    When Perumal broke open and, “Went inside the house and he found his wife lying in a pool of blood,” a police official said. “His son Pothiraj was also found inside the bedroom, with the iron box wire strangled around his neck.”


    Shocked by this Perumal cried for help and neighbours rushed to the spot. They alerted the police. The police immediately reached the place and rushed the two victims to the Tiruttani Government Hospital, where the mother and son were declared dead.


    During inspection, police found that the lock of the cupboard in the house was broke open and around 21 sovereign of gold jewels were missing from the house.


    The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Tiruttani) Sekar and Superintendent of Police (SP) Ponni reached the spot and conducted inquires.


    “We suspect that the men should have escaped on a motorbike but we are not sure how many men were involved in the burglary. We have alerted the nearby districts inTamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and further investigations are on,” said a police officer. The Tiruttani police registered a case and areinvestigating.
