DMK-Congress alliance always wins in Lok Sabha polls, says Chidambaram

Campaigning for DMK candidate TR Baalu at Alandur in Sriperumbudur constituency, Chidambaram said, “DMK and Congress had forged an alliance for the Lok Sabha polls first in 1971. Kalaignar and Indira Gandhi had forged a revolutionary alliance. Thereafter, DMK-Congress partnered for the Lok Sabah polls in 1996, 1998, 2004 and 2009. The alliance won in all five polls. DMK-Congress combine has never lost a Lok Sabha poll when they had fought together.” He added with confidence that the alliance would secure a big victory in 2019 as well.

Taking a dig at the AIADMK-BJP fold, Chidambaram said that other alliance has a vertically split AIADMK, waned DMDK and forgotten PMK plus a negative BJP. “The BJP does not strengthen any alliance. It will only weaken it.” Justifying his forecast of a major victory for the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), Chidambaram said that he has a reason for saying so. “The parties (in SPA) belong to Tamil land. Big or small, they were floated in Tamil Nadu and guided by great leaders. Leaders like Periyar, Kamarajar, Anna, Rajaji, Karunanidhi and Quaid-E-Millet, Jeevanandam, Baladanduyathum, Ramamoorthy and Kalyanasundaram who shaped and guided the Tamil society in the last century.”

“They taught us self-respect, rationalism, eradicating untouchability, progressive ideas, property rights of women and abolition of child marriage. Most of the parties in this alliance accept the progressive ideas,” the former union finance minister said, describing the BJP as the blot in the other alliance.

“What is the link between the BJP and Tamil Nadu. BJP has spread its roots and rules eight Hindi speaking states. Below Vindhyas and on eastern coast and up north in Kashmir the BJP is struggling to gain a foothold. But the party is ruling the country. Hence, Rahul Gandhi said they don’t care about other states or their culture,” reasoned Chidambaram.
