It is reliably learnt that the Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Saturday directed Kancheepuram Collector and Thiruporur returning officer to file a complaint against PMK leader Anbumani for his controversial speech.

“You know what to do in the polling booth and only we (NDA party workers) will be there in all the polling stations. Should I explain to you (cadres) what had to be done? If you do your work then both NDA candidates are winning,” Anbumani told AIADMK and PMK party workers during his campaign.

The action from the EC comes in the wake of the Anbumani’s speech going viral on social media and the Opposition crying foul over it.

Kancheepuram Collector and district election officer P Ponniah said, “We have got information about the controversial speech by the PMK leader during an election rally in Thiruporur. The returning officer has received a complaint in this regard and he is looking into it. Based on the preliminary investigations the RO will take further action.” On the execution of model code of conduct, he said till now the district has recorded 87 cases for violating the poll norms.

Plaint to withdraw notification on Central station renaming after MGR

Advocate S Doraisamy on Saturday lodged a complaint with the CEO seeking withdrawal of gazette notification made by the state government to notify the name of Chennai central railway station after the AIADMK leader MG Ramachandran. In his complaint, the advocate said that the statues of all political leaders in the state had been covered under model code of conduct. When this is the practice the state issuing a notification on naming the railway station ahead of polls will be a violation of model code of conduct. The election department should direct the state to withdraw the gazette notification in this regard, the complainant said.
