Addressing a public meeting to canvas votes for Congress candidate in Karur LS constituency S Jothimani, Stalin said Thambidurai was vocal in his criticism of the BJP government till some time before the polls.

“Thambidurai was ripping apart the NDA leader on all its programmes. He even questioned the benefits of GST in Parliament and criticised the Centre for not allocating adequate relief fund for the state when it was in need of it. Now that he is the candidate of the AIADMK, which is in alliance with the BJP, how is he able to praise PM Narendra Modi,” Stalin wondered

Referring to Thambidurai’s harsh response to public criticism over his absence from Karur in the last five years, Stalin said the AIADMK leader lacked humanity that he even threatened the people.

Stalin in his next line of fire targeted Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for criticising the DMK-led alliance in his campaign speeches. “A Chief Minister should seek votes listing the government’s development schemes. Since there has been nothing of such sorts, the CM has been criticising the DMK-Congress combine,” he said.

Stating that Modi was terrified by the Congress party’s manifesto, Stalin thanked Rahul Gandhi for supporting DMK’s state autonomy policy, which was highlighted in the national party’s election manifesto. He said the DMK would strive hard to ensure the victory of all candidates fielded by the partners of Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA).

Targeting the BJP, the DMK leader said, “The BJP, which fears a defeat, is behind for the I-T raids on opposition party leaders. There is a huge pile of money with AIADMK functionaries. Will the I-T department raid their premises.”

Stalin assured that various projects, including the necessary infrastructure for textile exports and an integrated dyeing unit park, will be set up in Karur.

Later in the day, Stalin, who met the voters at Kallakurichi constituency, claimed that the AIADMK government would have toppled if the bypolls for the all 22 constituencies were conducted simultaneously. “The ruling AIADMK deliberately, with the help of Modi’s government at the Centre, had stopped the bye-polls to three assembly constituencies such as Aravakurichi, Thiruparankundram, Ottapidaram and Sullur”, he said adding “if the three these four bye-elections would have conducted, the AIADMK will out of power”.
