The AMMK would take legal action if the pontiff continued making remarks that the party would merge with the AIADMK in due course, the party deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran said in Udhagamandalam. Campaigning for The Nilgiris constituency candidate M Ramasamy of his party, Dhinakaran said that the AIADMK government will fall after the Lok Sabha elections.

“Both the BJP government at the Centre and the AIADMK in the state will fall after Lok Sabha polls. People are waiting to oust Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. Knowing this, he had fallen at the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The AIADMK will not win in all the 18 Assembly segments,” he said.

Stating that former chief minister J Jayalalithaa had a special liking for The Nilgiris and hence implemented several projects, the AMMK leader said however after her demise, the AIADMK ignored the interests of people in the hills. He also questioned the AIADMK’s alliance with PMK and DMDK, which were opposed to erecting a memorial and unveiling a portrait of Jayalalithaa in the Assembly.

Dhinakaran also questioned the double standards of Left parties and the Congress combine, which have forged an alliance in Tamil Nadu but are pitted against each other in neighbouring Kerala. “There is no consensus among parties in the Congress alliance on the Prime Ministerial candidate,” he said.

Pointing out that women are unsafe in the state, the AMMK leader said that school and college going girls, besides working women were affected in various ways. “Incidents like the Pollachi sexual assault and Thudiyalur rape and murder of minor girl are happening due to the failure of law and order,” he added.
