The CCB sleuths have booked a cheating case against two persons – Kumar (51) and Murthy (62), a Maths teacher retired from Kendriya Vidyalaya School located inside the IIT-M campus. However, only Kumar was arrested for introducing Murthy to the TNUSRB officials as an IIT-M professor.

The TNUSRB officials sought the help of Kumar when the Madras High Court asked them to submit an expert opinion from an IIT-M professor or retired professor for rejecting a candidate, who applied for the fingerprint bureau sub-inspector selection process, conducted by the board. Kumar hid the fact that Murthy worked as a school teacher and introduced him as a retired IIT-M professor Dr D Murthy and obtained his opinion and gave it to the TNUSRB officials on March 1, which was later submitted to the court.

Based on the complaint, the CCB have registered a case under the IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 465 (punishment for forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using a forged document as a genuine one), 491 (breach of contract) read with 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) against G V Kumar and Murthy.

Kumar has been practicing psychologist and marital counsellor since 1983 and had also helped preparing psychology questions for the TNUSRB examinations in the past.
