DMK’s new vow: 5-gm gold loans will be waived
In an attempt to woo the labour class, DMK president MK Stalin on Wednesday said that the DMK’s manifesto would include waiving loans to landless farmers and daily wage labourers for up to five grams of gold pledged in co-operative and public banks.

Referring to the recent raids by the Income Tax department at a senior party member’s house, Stalin said it could be a conspiracy to cancel the bypolls to two Assembly seats in Vellore Lok Sabha constituency.
The fear of defeat has prompted I-T raids at the residence and college of Durai Murugan and his son in Vellore district,he alleged.
“The Election Commission will face the consequences for dancing to the tune of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The money seizure was nothing but a drama enacted by placing money and recovering it through raids. Their intention appears to stop bypolls in Ambur and Gudiyattam in Vellore district so that the ruling AIADMK can continue to be in power,” he said while addressing a public meet campaigning for CPI Tirupur parliamentary constituency candidate K Subbarayan.
Seeking to know why the Election Commission has not announced polls for the three Assembly segments of Tirupparankundram, Aravakurichi and Ottapidaram and now vacant Sulur constituency, Stalin accused Modi of threatening autonomous bodies to satisfy his selfish goals.
He also claimed that wrong economic policies of the Centre, including GST and demonetisation, have taken away the sheen of Tirupur and left thousands jobless.
Stating that soon both the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu and BJP at the Centre will be ousted from power, Stalin said that once DMK comes to power, a probe will be conducted into the mysterious death of former Chief minister late J Jayalalithaa and into the Kodanad murder-cum-heist.
Earlier, addressing the public in Coimbatore, Stalin asked why the Election Commission is not conducting checks at the residences of the Chief minister, the deputy Chief minister and SP Velumani, who all have stashed money to bribe voters. He also took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for doing politics in the name of religion.
