TNUSRB in the dock for submitting fake expert opinion document
Shocked to find that the expert’s opinion submitted by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) in a case at the Madras High Court was bogus, Justice S M Subramaniam has directed the Inspector General of Police and the Member Secretary, TNUSRB, to file a detailed affidavit setting out the facts and circumstances in the case.

The petitioner, S Arunachalam, now working as Grade-II police constable, had applied for the post of Sub Inspector of Police (Finger Print) following a recruitment notification issued by TNUSRB. But after participating in the process of selection, the petitioner had moved the court alleging that on account of the wrong key answer, half mark was denied to him. Since the said question was technical, the court had directed TNUSRB to obtain an expert opinion from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M).
Following this, the expert opinion of D Moorthy, Professor, Math Department, IIT-M, was submitted in the court on March 1, 2019. Justice Subramaniam on a perusal of the expert opinion, held that the petitioner has written a wrong answer and dismissed the plea.
But Arunachalam approached the court yet again saying that the copy of the expert’s opinion filed was fake. According to him, there was no professor in the name of D Moorthy working in IIT-M presently or retired. This apart, the reply under the Right to Information Act also revealed that there was neither any regular staff nor visiting faculty by that name of D Moorthy. However, when the plea was taken up on Monday, TNUSRB submitted that some impersonation has been identified and a criminal case has been registered against one G V Kumar and D Moorthy for furnishing false documents. But holding that several questions remain unexplained, Justice Subramaniam sought for a detailed affidavit on the issue by Tuesday.
