It is said that the Tiruchy Congress election office was scheduled to be opened at Aristo roundabout near Central bus stand at 7 am in the presence of DMK district secretary KN Nehru. Nehru known for his punctuality reached the spot exactly at 6.50 am and was shocked to see only a few Congress cadres at the venue. Moreover, Congress candidate Su Thirunavukkarasar was not present.
An irritated Nehru raised his signature voice and reportedly warned them and left the place after asking the Congress workers to call him once Thirunavukkarasar reaches the venue.
Soon, he left the place and went to a hotel near the bus stand and was waiting there. When Thirunavukkarasar reached the venue, the cadre informed it to Nehru.
Nehru then reached the place and reportedly advised Thirunavukkarasar to maintain punctuality during the campaign. Thirunavukkarasar had no words then.
Subsequently, Nehru inaugurated the election office and they headed for campaigning in Tiruchy city.
According to the people close to Nehru, he was already not satisfied with the candidature of Thirunavukkarasar, who is very senior to him in politics. During the first day of campaign, Nehru and Thirunavukkarasar seemed to be tight faced and the campaign went along Tiruchy roads, including Anna Nagar, Tennur and Woraiyur.
