Coimbatore
According to the police, driver of the bus, Jaison (50) from Kerala, lost control of the vehicle while crossing Kasigavundanpudur ‘roundana’ near Avinashi around 2.30 am. The bus crashed into the sidewall of the bridge and fell down on the underpass in a slanting position, policeadded.
On receipt of information, Avinashi police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passengers with the help of public. The injured, which included a four-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl, were rushed to hospitals in Avinashi, Tirupur and Coimbatore. Driver of the bus, Jaison, was trapped in the mangled bus for nearly an hour before he was rescued.
It took four hours to restore the bus back to its normal position with the help of earth movers. The accident led to traffic disruptions on the Coimbatore-Avinashi six-lane road for three hours.
Police said there were no causalities since there were no vehicles beneath the underpass when the bus fell off as it was nigh time.
A case has been registered in this regard and further enquiries are on.
