IIT Madras ties up with TCS on memory studies

The event witnessed aspects of extended reality, digital humanities and literary studies on a single platform. It also touched upon the various forms of reality, namely virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality as emerging mediums that are altering the accepted ways of consuming and navigating of knowledge, information, and memory.

The complex cognitive experiences generated out of these entanglements attract new avenues for interdisciplinary research. The session dealt on what comprises extended reality and how it shapes society, cognition and culture.

The collaboration would lead to more formalised and institutionalised collaborations with industry as well as academia from different parts of the world, said a statement.

Avishek Parui and Merin Simi Raj, assistant professors, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, said, “We are hopeful to acquire significant research input and funding to facilitate truly interdisciplinary research that will benefit the industry and academia alike. We believe that the research prospects from this academia-industry interface are significant and potentially path breaking.”

The research scholars in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences are currently working in the area of memory studies
