At the state executive committee meeting of Desiya Thennindiya Nadhigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam here on Saturday, its state president Ayyakannu, who also chaired the meeting, stood by its decision to field 111 candidates against Modi. “We have been fighting for a series of demands including loan waiver, interlinking of rivers at least in south India, pension for agricultural labourers, profitable price for the agri produces,” Ayyakannu told reporters.

Stating that regional parties were not entitled to fulfil their demands, he said the leaders from national parties should invites farmers from across the nation, especially from TN, at least by April 6 and assure them to fulfil their demands.

“Otherwise, the Tamil Nadu farmers would travel to Kasi dressed as Aghoris and beg to raise the money required for filing nominations on April 24. They would file their nominations on April 25 from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency where PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to contest from,” Ayyakannu said, adding that the farmers in Varanasi are waiting for the arrival of the farmers from TN and would extend their full support to them.
