“A few questions, even in the compulsory section, were difficult,” said K Paranthaman, a Class 10 Science student, studying in Avadi Government High School. According to him, some questions were too long, which took more time to get the right answer. Some of the teachers, too, complained that the questions were complicated and hard to attend.
“Some questions models were different from the model papers given by the government,” said S Kalaivani, a teacher at a private school in Pammal. She said only few hundred students would score centum in Social Science this year. More than eight lakh students appeared for Class 10 board exams this year.
Meanwhile, a senior School Education Department official said that the results would be published before the Lok Sabha election results so that students who seek admissions for higher secondary schools would not not be affected.
“Admissions will start immediately after the results are announced,” he added. The official also pointed out that students joining Class XI would have new syllabus that was introduced last year.
Three marks for error in question
Heeding to the request of academicians and parents, the State government has decided to grant three marks for question number 33, that had an error, in the Chemistry Class 12 board exam paper. However, the directorate of examination pointed out that the marks will be granted only to Tamil medium students.
