Police to reward informers in Kovai minor’s rape case
Unable to nab culprits, the Coimbatore rural police on Thursday announced a reward for those giving information on those involved in the rape and murder of a seven-year-old.
Coimbatore
The Class 1 student, who went missing on Monday evening, was found dead on Tuesday morning near her house. While her hands and legs were tied, the body bore several injuries. The post-mortem report confirmed that the girl was gang-raped and strangled to death.
Though the police secured six persons on suspicion, they could not confirm their involvement due to lack of evidence. Yet the police haven’t ruled them out from the list of suspects. The girl’s grandfather and a minor boy were among those secured on doubt.
With the case making no headway, the police announced a reward to informers. Handbills were circulated by police personnel in Thudiyalur, asking people to furnish clues to crack down the case. The police have assured that the identity of the informers will be kept confidential.
The girl’s mother named a few suspects from her neighbourhood, but the police could not find any evidence for their involvement. The case has now been taken over by the All Women’s Police Station (AWPS).
